Being a Social Media Manager : “There are so many opportunities that businesses are missing out on simply because they don't embrace the new social media climate”

Should all businesses be visible on TikTok? What should be considered when developing a social media strategy, and what are the hottest trends businesses should tap into? We chatted with Aimfor's social media guru, Felicia Nordell, about what she sees in the future.

With a flair for "all things internet", Aimfor's own Felicia Nordell moves world-wise between TikTok, Meta and TikTok. As Social Media Manager, she takes a comprehensive approach to Aimfor's channels and the customers'. So, there will be a lot of strategic work combined with hands-on copy and publishing. Formulating the foundation for a social media strategy is essential before you start working with your social media for real. How does it work?

When creating a social media strategy, it is most important to start at the right end. For example, start by defining your target group before planning the type of content and frequency you will use. This is important because you should adapt your content based on your current and potential followers.

Many companies want to use TikTok to reach a younger target group. How to think? Is TikTok really for everyone?

– TikTok is a platform with a very powerful algorithm-based flow. As more people start moving towards the platform, it can be for everyone, even the older target group. However, I would say that TikTok works best when you want to reach a slightly younger target group.

LinkedIn appears to be changing its feed to resemble how we consume TikTok. What does this mean for LinkedIn's future?

– I understand that LinkedIn has chosen to go in this direction. Short-form videos have grown tremendously in recent years, and it's a format that businesses and creators today must be able to handle.

She continues:

– Videos about entrepreneurship and business success engage many in feeds such as YouTube shorts and Instagram Reels. For LinkedIn, I think this will promote its platform positively because it will be able to keep users on the platform longer.

Which social media trends do you like yourself right now?

– I love it when companies dare to be personal on social media and show off the people who work within the company! During the spring, many companies have jumped on the trend and used TikTok to create content in an office environment, aiming to show a more humane image of a company and its people rather than to communicate the services they sell. I like!

And finally, what should companies stop doing on social media immediately?

– To continue using social media as if it were 2015!!! When you look at the different platforms in the last year alone, an incredible amount has happened regarding how the algorithms reward content and other functions. There are so many opportunities that businesses are missing out on simply because they don't embrace the new social media climate. It is essential to stay up to date with what works at the moment on each platform.
